It is a common mistake among English language learners to say “paradise” instead of “heaven.” These two words do not mean the same thing.

In the English language, these words typically mean:

PARADISE

  1. (noun) a beautiful and enjoyable place

HEAVEN

  1. (noun) the place where people may go after death to spend eternity with God

EXAMPLES

  1. “My husband and I went to Hawaii for our honeymoon. It was an absolute paradise! It was sunny every day, there were palm trees, white sand beaches, and clear blue ocean. The food was excellent, too! We had so much coconut shrimp and chocolate-covered macadamia nuts! We highly recommend going there.”

  2. Paradise to him is a weekend spent with family, with kids running around having fun, adults having deep and meaningful conversations, and everyone coming together at the end of the day to share a big meal.”

  3. Easter is a major holiday in Canada. It is about Jesus Christ dying on the cross as a sacrifice for humanity’s sins and rising three days later after defeating death. It is about celebrating this defeat and the salvation that humanity has received as a result, meaning the ability that humans have to go to heaven after they die thanks to the power of God through Jesus Christ.”
