“Wicked,” featuring pop sensation/actor Ariana Grande and Broadway performer/singer Cynthia Erivo (as well as acclaimed actors Michelle Yeoh (Everything Everywhere All At Once), Jeff Goldblum (Jurassic Park) and Bowen Yang (Saturday Night Live)), is an impressive film adaptation of a famous Broadway musical that is based on a book by Gregory Maguire. This multi-Oscar-Award-winning movie is the first part of a film duology whose sequel, “Wicked: For Good,” is now available to watch in theatres (as of November 25, 2025).
The story of “Wicked” focuses on a minor yet important character, Elphaba the Wicked Witch of the West, of the classic fantasy film “The Wizard of Oz.” “Wicked” dives into this character’s origin story, exploring why she became the evil witch that she is perceived to be in the 1939 film. It follows her university education, the formative friendships that she makes, and the discoveries of good and evil that she happens upon along the way.
